Wipro managers score top ranks at IIM-BFakir Chand in Bangalore Wiproites of the Bangalore-based global IT major Wipro Ltd, have bagged four out of the top five ranks in the first batch of the post-graduate diploma in the software enterprise management (PGSM) course of the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B). Out of the 39 PGSM students, 15 are from Wipro. The first four rank holders from Wipro are C Nagaraju (1st rank), K V Ramaswami (2nd rank), H R Venkatesh (3rd rank), and Anurag Seth (4th rank). Interestingly, all the 39 students were from the software industry and with work experience. Realising the need to bring out talented middle and top level managers, Wipro joined hands with IIM-B in 1998 to develop and launch a 3-year program to address the specific managerial and business needs of the software enterprise management. Equivalent to the regular post-graduate management diploma offered by the institute, the students were selected based on the entrance test conducted by IIM-B on the lines of IIM's common entrance test. Wipro had the choice of selecting its employee-students, and has funded 50 per cent of the course fee and all research programs associated with the course for its employee-students. It considers these managers as the 'change agents' in the new millennium to achieve the challenging organisational goals. According to PGSM program chairperson S Krishna, the multi-layer partnership with the industry has worked to the institute's expectations. The projects that students have completed as part of the program, have been outstanding," he added. Wipro has been a pioneer in the industry in providing opportunities for its employees to increase their knowledge and has sponsored students for a post graduate course in Illinois University of Technology in the US, apart from launching a virtual education program across the company recently. |
