Godbole committee report to be tabled in Maharashtra assembly

The report of the Madhav Godbole Committee, appointed to study the implications of Enron-promoted Dabhol Power Project, received by the Maharashtra government on Tuesday, would be tabled during the on-going budget session of state legislature, state Energy Minister Dr Padamsinh Patil said.

The report received by the government is an interim one and another part will be submitted soon, the minister told reporters.

Godbole, a former union home secretary, submitted the report to chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, earlier on Monday.

Official sources said that the report received by the government is regarding the impact of Dabhol Power Project in coastal Konkan on Maharashtra.

"The state cabinet, in a day or two, will deliberate on the report, which will be then tabled in the state assembly," Patil said.

However, the minister was non-committal when asked whether a discussion would be allowed in the house over the report.

The Godbole committee has also been asked to study the overall power scenario in the state.

The Congress-led Democratic Front (DF) government had appointed the committee to study the overall power scenario in the state with special reference to DPC's project following pressure from the DF constituents.
