'CBI has 'explosive' tape on Verma talking to foreigner lady'

S Mani in New Delhi

The Central Bureau of Investigation is in possession of an audio tape which has former chairman of Central Board for Customs and Excise B P Verma talking to a foreigner woman. Sources said that the conversation between Verma and the woman, was recorded in December 2000.

According to sources in the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, the three-hour recording is said to be 'explosive'. CBI spokesperson S M Khan confirmed the existence of the audio tape.

On Sunday afternoon, at an internal meeting of the CBI, it was pointed out that the tape, if given to DRI, would be legally valid and hence, a decision was taken to let the latter listen to it during interrogation.
