Speculative, institutional buying buoys markets; Sensex up 70 points to 4180 by noon

The Bombay Stock Exchange opened on a firm note as speculative and institutional support continued. Commodity and cyclical stocks were firm.

The 30-share benchmark index, the Sensex, soared to 4180 level by 1245 hours IST, up 70 points or 1.70 per cent from Friday's close.

Tata Chemicals, Reliance Petroleum and Indian Rayon hit the upper limit of the circuit breaker on institutional buying. BHEL, Reliance Industries, cement and hotel stocks were reported to be steady.
