The first phase of the Kochi Water Metro, a modern ferry-based, eco-friendly public transport system, became operational in 2023 in the Greater Kochi region, linking with the Kochi Metro.

Delhi

The largest and busiest metro system in India, the highy efficient Delhi Metro, which launched in 2002, runs on a network of about 395 km. Operated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, it serves not just Delhi but also NCR cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, Bahadurgarh.

Kolkata

Inaugurated in 1984, Kolkata's metro is the oldest system in India and a source of pride for all Calcuttans. It currently operates across 60 km of network and is managed by Kolkata Metro Railway.

Bengaluru

Known as Namma Metro, it began operation in 2011 and is run by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited. It has played a crucial role in reducing traffic congestion in the tech-driven city and has over 74 km of operational track.

Chennai 

Launched in 2015 and managed by Chennai Metro Rail Limited, this system features a mix of underground and elevated routes spanning around 54 km, and is appreciated for its modern, air-conditioned coaches.

Hyderabad 

The Hyderabad Metro -- operational since 2017 -- was developed under a public-private partnership model by L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd, and is one of the largest PPP metro projects globally. With a network of some 69 km, it is a fully-elevated system connecting key parts of the city, especially IT hubs.

Mumbai

The Mumbai Metro, launched in 2014 and operated by Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd, along with other agencies, is beginning to supplement the city’s overburdened suburban rail system. With over 46 km of operational lines, it continues to expand with both underground and elevated corridors.

Lucknow

Running on a 23 km network, the Lucknow Metro was launched in 2017 and is operated by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation and is admired for its clean, efficient services.

Ahmedabad

Gujarat's first metro was inaugurated in 2019. Managed by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, it has 40 km of tracks and connects Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
