The Airports Council International has released its 2024 rankings of the world's busiest airports by total passenger traffic, reflecting a significant rebound in global air travel. Delhi is among them.
Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 2024 ranked as the busiest airport in the world, handling 108,067,766 passengers. This marks a 3.3 per cent increase over 2023, although it is still 2.2 per cent below 2019 levels. ATL benefits from being Delta Air Lines’ primary hub and its strategic central U.S. location.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) ranked second in 2024, with 92,331,506 passengers.
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport served 87,817,864 passengers in 2024, and ranked 3rd globally.
Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) handled 85,900,617 passengers in 2024, ranking 4th.
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) served 83,884,572 passengers in 2024, making it 5th globally.
Denver International Airport (DEN) handled 82,358,744 passengers in 2024, placing it 6th globally.
Istanbul Airport (IST) handled 80,073,252 passengers in 2024, ranking 7th globally.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) served 80,043,050 passengers in 2024, ranking 8th.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), New Delhi, ranked 9th in 2024 with 77,820,834 passengers. It grew 7.8 per cent from 2023 and 13.6 per cent compared to 2019.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) handled 76,787,039 passengers in 2024, ranking 10th globally.
