Dal Ka Chilla: 20-Min Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow mung dal, presoaked at least 2 hours
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 green chillies, chopped

  • 5 pods garlic
  • 1-inch piece ginger
  • Handful fresh green dhania or coriander leaves or cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tsp chilly powder

  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste, about 1 tsp
  • Pinch baking soda
  • 6 tbsp oil

Method

  • Heat 2 tbsp oil in a saucepan over medium heat and fry the garlic, ginger.
  • Then add the onion, green chillies and lightly brown.

  • Grind the soaked dal, garlic, onions etc.
  • Add the salt, garam masala, coriander leaves, chilliy powder, baking soda and mix well.

  • Heat 1-2 tbsp oil in a frying pan or tawa over medium heat and pour half the batter in.
    Cook till it turns light brown and flip and take off.

  • Repeat for rest of batter using 1-2 tbsp.
  • Serve with green chutney and/or tomato sauce; Serves 1-2.
