Which countries are known for their excellent bathing routines? For bathing often and keeping clean? World Population Review has the data. Let's find out.
Cleanest people? It's Brazil, where almost everyone hops under the water regularly. Baths are rare, only 7 per cent, but 99 per cent of all Brazilians take at least one shower a week which -- surprisingly -- is far above the world average.
Frische den ganzen Tag. Oh yes, freshness for the whole day... In Germany, 92 per cent step into the shower at least weekly, while a 20 per cent enjoy soaking in the tub at least once a week. That makes Germans among the world’s leaders in personal cleanliness.
Americans are fairly obsessed with their showers/baths. Around 90 per cent will shower once a week, making them pretty clean folks when it comes to global rankings. A 2024 Harris poll established that Americans were getting more shower-oriented with each successive generation.
America's southern neighbour has similar hygiene practices. 90 per cent of Mexicans take at least one shower every week.
85 per cent of the Chinese reportedly take at least one shower per week, with an average of six per week.
The Brits have decent bathing habits. 83 per cent of them shower once weekly. On average, most take 6 showers a week. 32 per cent prefer drawing a bath. Another survey by WilkinsonSword stated that many a Brit was turned on by their partner owning a sweet-smelling bathroom.
Inspite of the stereotypes that exist about the Gallic lack of affinity for water, about 76 per cent of people take at least one shower per week, averaging seven showers weekly. Earlier surveys revealed the French love of deodorants, perfumes, shower gels, shampoos, making them the largest European consumer of these items
The bathing rates start plummeting as we travel across the map. Only 61 per cent Russianse report taking one shower weekly. Russian prez Vladimir Putin is known to swim daily although unsurprisingly not much is known about his bathing habits, except that he has bathed in reindeer blood.
Kumbh and other festivals have put into sharp focus how much India likes to bathe especially in holy waters. World Population Review does not have the exact stats but Indians as a population bathe 9th most frequently in the world.
