9 Countries With The Most McDonald's

McDonald’s Corporation ranked the countries where they have the largest number of outlets in world. Guessing the country that tops the list ain't hard.

United States

Home to the highest number of Mac joints in the world, the first opened in 1940 in San Bernardino, California. In 2024, it had a total of 13,548 outlets. On average, there is one McDonald’s for every 25,633 Americans.

China

The first arrived in 1990 in Dongmen, Shenzhen. Since then, the brand has expanded rapidly. Last count: The country has around 6,820 outlets.

Japan

The Land of the Rising Sun welcomed its first McDonald’s in 1971 in Ginza, Tokyo. Outlets have since mushroomed and Japan now has about 2,989 outlets across various cities.

France 

On June 30, 1972 France got its first Mac outlet in Créteil. Surprisingly, the country that strongly believes in slow food has the 4th highest number of McDonald's eateries at 1,588.

Canada

Richmond, British Columbia, got the first Canadian McDonald’s in 1967. At present, Canada has 1,489 outlets.
