Your Valentine's Day checklist

February 14, 2005 13:30 IST

The big day is finally here!

We hope you are all set to wine, dine and woo your love in the true Valentine spirit.

To make sure your romantic plans proceed smoothly, Get Ahead presents a checklist for you.

We don't want the details to ruin a romantic evening now, do we?

1. Have you coordinated with your date?

Make sure you and your partner are in sync about the plan for the evening, else you will waste precious time coordinating schedules.

Also choose a venue that doesn't require either of you to travel too much, so you have more of the evening together.

2. Have you got reservations?

Whether it is a movie or dinner, make sure you book tickets and make reservations beforehand.

Else, you will end up like 24-year old marketing executive Shireen Arora, who was stranded with her boyfriend at their favourite restaurant for an hour last Valentine's Day.

"Ultimately," she says, "we decided to grab some coffee. It was the most unromantic experience ever, having to shout above all that cackle."

3. Is your wardrobe ready?

Decide what you will wear tonight right now! This way, you won't get all worked up and, what's more, waste time later on.

Make sure that the lovely red dress or that cool new shirt you originally planned to wear is not at the dry cleaners!

Iron your clothes and polish your shoes.

Have a contingency outfit in mind. If you are not feeling comfortable and confident with what you had originally planned, you can switch to this one.

Make sure you know the dress code of the Valentine venue, so that you both don't feel too dressy or underdressed.

4. Are you carrying your wallet?

Make sure you are carrying enough money to see you through your date.

If you plan to use a credit or debit card, make sure the venue accepts those, and that your cards work.

Call the place beforehand to make absolutely sure.

5. Have you picked up your gift?

If you have, don't forget to get it gift-wrapped. And, most of all, don't forget to carry it with you.

If you haven't had the time to get a gift, pick up some lovely flowers or a box of chocolates.

These work well as last minute options.

In the event that something does go wrong on your date, don't let the tragedy ruin your evening.

The best thing is, you are with someone of your choice. And that's most important.

Enjoy your date!
