Holi, being the most energetic, spirited, and colourful festival, has transitioned from being a festival celebrated with gulaal and water to squirting chemicals and synthetic pigments.

A little precaution can go a long way.

Here are 5 tips and tricks that I stick to protect my skin before and after Holi.

1. Cover up with natural products

The most effective way to get the colour off easily is by applying oils such as coconut oil, almond oil, or olive oil.

These provide a certain level of protection to the skin from the colours and chemicals as well as nourishes the skin. Do not forget those nails!

2. Sunscreen

There are major benefits of applying any sunscreen or a moisturizer with at least SPF 30.

Besides preventing the colour from sticking to the skin, it takes care of the sun, dust, colour as well as the heat.

Sunscreens are absolutely helpful in reducing the aftermath of colour from the body.

3. Rose water

A concoction of gram flour, sweet oil, and milk cream in rose water is also advised after playing Holi.

This paste becomes thick and can be applied to the face, hands as well as legs.

Rub it off once it dries to remove the colour on the skin. This helps in keeping the skin soft.

4. Multani mithi magic

Soak multani mithi (Fuller's Earth) for an hour or two and apply it while taking a bath to easily deal with the process of removing colour from the body.

Let it dry for some time and rinse it off.

This mud pack is very helpful and makes the entire process effortless.

In case you have any non-organic colours on the body, this paste will help soothe the skin.

5. Be gentle with the face

Do not use scrubs and exfoliators for at least a day after playing Holi.

Apart from the typical coconut oil or olive oil massages, a blend of fresh lemon juice, curd and sandalwood will work wonders for the face.

I hope these quick tips will help you enjoy this festival of colours!

Wishing you all the brightest hues of life.

Stay safe and follow protocols this year! Have a happy and colourful Holi!
