An ashram in Sitabani, Ramnagar

About 22 km from Ramnagar, near the Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, Sitabani is a pristine forest area. Although you may come across a bunch of monkeys or deer on your way to this temple, but this jungle is not really for animal sighting.

Come here to see how silent, dense, and expanse a jungle can be. A long and bumpy ride will take you to a small desolate ashram and temple, where Sita is said to have spent her years in exile with her sons Luv and Kush.

The temple is quite unique as it is for the first-time I saw a statue of Sita without Rama. The white-stone murti (statue) shows her holding her sons Luv and Kush. Another temple further up has an unusual statue of Hanuman with several faces depicting his powers.

The verdant surroundings are simply astonishing and the silence seems everlasting. Plan a trip in the mid-afternoon, as going back from the lonely jungle might seem challenging.
