e had asked our young readers to review their colleges.
Here's one among the many responses we have got!
College: Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai [Images].
Course: The course I am doing is MBA (Tech). It is a five-year undergraduate course, integrating engineering and MBA.
It offers majors in four disciplines as of now: Information Technology, Telecom, Chemical and Manufacturing.
Benefits: You save a whole academic year, giving you an edge over your counterparts who opt for the conventional engineering and MBA course. Besides, you are groomed in the B-school environment and are conditioned to cater to the industry.
Fee structure: This is a tough one. They say quality comes at a price. And, well, this course is a bit on the steep side. Average fees per year amount to about Rs 150,000.
Fun activities: This is a long one. There's plenty to do at NMIMS.
The entire campus is Wi Fi enabled and almost all the students here have laptops. So you can find a lot of them gaming (on the network, but of course!) in the quadrangle.
There's a game room where you can challenge others to a game of carrom or table tennis.
There's also a huge computer lab stocked with over 40 state-of-the art machines sponsored by IBM backed by 512 kbps fibre optic lines for fast browsing.
Besides, there's a television installed in the quadrangle. A first for any college in India, I suppose. The only downside is, it shows only news. All the time.
There's also a theatre room where everyone gathers once in a while to watch movies, cricket and soccer matches on the large screen, with an LCD projector.
In case someone is really bored, students are often found in classes, enjoying the cool atmosphere (the college is
centrally air-conditioned), or browsing on the in-class computers. Students can also be found in the library surfing on their laptops, studying or gathering research material for their projects and presentations.
There are also a lot of cells that cater to the needs of the students, including Straenif (Fine Arts), Nepathya (Performance Arts), Finomenon (Finance. It is B-School, remember?), SRF (Social Responsibility Forums, which has SRF movie nights), et al.
The college has tons of festivals, including Euphoria, one of the biggest B-School festivals on the circuit.
Euphoria is credited as the only festival in the country to open with a play. There are also other festivals, including Sadbhavna (Social Responsibility Festival), Sambandh (the annual festival of the part-time MBA students), Pratibimb (the festival organised by MBA Tech students), etc.
The quadrangle is where all the action takes place.
Canteen: One of the best in Mumbai. We have a cafe called S-cafe, that serves everything from Indian cuisine to Chinese and even Italian.
The prices are reasonable and the portions, good. The cafe serves good food, and you can find people sitting in till wee hours at night.
We have an in-house Baskin & Robbins and even a Cafe Coffee Day [Images] on campus. Need I say more?
Aditya Pandya is 19, and a second-year student of MBA (Tech), at NMIMS, Mumbai.
