Comedy king Govinda is ready for a few more reels of laugh

Govinda is usually not known as a straight talker.
When Priyanka Nair met him, Govinda was in an unusually blunt mood. The actor has just released Waah! Tera Kya Kehna. It is another Govinda comedy. For his part, the actor says he leaves it to the audience to decide whether they like the film or not:
What do you expect from Waah! Tera Kya Kehna?
I have given my 100 per cent to the film. It all depends whether the audience likes it or not. The film is a laugh riot. I really don't how many will get tickled and how many won't.
I have done my bit during the shooting. After the film releases, the audience decides its fate
Why are you sounding indifferent?
I am not being indifferent towards my work or role. I have never been so. I may be indifferent about the result of the film at the box-office.
Why made you decide to work with Manoj Aggarwal who has always given you a flop?
He is a friend of mine. His earlier films with me didn't work at the box-office. But they definitely got appreciation. I hope our third film together Waah! Tera Kya Kehna will work at the box-office.
But no big star films seem to be working at the box-office.
I don't think a film has ever worked at the box-office because of a star. If the film is good, it will work whether it has a star or no star. I am sure movie lovers will never diminish because cinema is the only source of entertainment for them.
How will they pass time if they do not get entertainment? Din bhar mein logo ko at least six hours of entertainment is needed be it film or television.
Your last release Ankhiyon Se Goli Mare didn't do well at the box-office.
I am not worried about failure. I have made my career in this industry so it does not scare me. I don't think the failure of one film means the end of your career.
Today, it is necessary that an actor has one hit a year --- I have been consistent with that. Last year, if you remember, it was Jodi No 1. This year, too, I assure you that I will give one hit.
The director of Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare was quite upset with you after you didn't go to Mauritius and kept them waiting at the airport?
I was seriously ill. And I had informed Harmesh Malhotra. I had asked my doctor to give me strong medicines so I could go to Mauritius. But my doctor asked me take rest and avoid travelling. So I had to cancel it.
Do you regret not playing Chunnilal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas?
I don't. I don't think I would have earned anything extra creatively by playing Chunnilal. If someone expects me to do a role only because he is a big director and he thinks it will help my career, I am not interested in taking that kind of help from anyone.
I am happy doing the kind of films I am doing at the moment.
You had turned down Taal, but accepted Ek Aur Ek Gyaarah from Subhash Ghai?
Yes, but this time Subhash Ghai gave me a film where I was the hero and not a character actor like the one I was offered in Taal, so I took it up. Besides, the project is being directed by David Dhawan who is like my brother and have done so many successful films together.
Is there any role you would like to play?
I don't think this is the right time to talk about my aspirations. Besides it is not as if I am caught in a traffic jam or anything.
Why should I change my track when comedy is selling and people are enjoying my work? I am in my place and know that no one else can take that place.
