'Why would I harbour any jealousy?'

They are the titans of the Malayalam film industry.

With a history of togetherness. Both Mohanlal and Mammootty started their acting careers in 1980. Time was when almost all Malayalam films in the 1980s had both of them together.

Both are gifted actors. Both have won three National Awards each.

Both have the strongest of admiration for each other.

Here, growing up together through the eyes of Mohanlal:

DID you know he was my father in our first film? I still tease Ichakka (big brother) about it!

We've acted in over 50 films -- I don't think you'll ever see two popular stars together in so many films in any other language. Acting together obviously meant we met often.

Soon, we drew close. But then again, there are very few people in our industry. It was but natural for all of us to interact together.

We still keep in touch. And when we meet, our discussions skim a variety of subjects.

Yeah, people have referred to our professional jealousy -- I want to know, why would I harbour any?

I don't have to grab his roles, and vice-versa. Besides, you can't accept all the offers you get! So there's no question of taking the other person's roles.

We acted together in Harikrishnans recently. I've heard that, in many other languages, actors fight for the number of scenes. Whether that's true or not, it is shows an immature and insecure mind. Thankfully, we have no such problems!

True, he is moody and reacts quite sharply sometimes. But then, I'm a patient sort of man!

He is also such a nice person. Though our relationship hasn't deepened over the years, it hasn't lessened, either. We still enjoy the same relationship we shared 20 years ago.
