'We are the frontrunner to form the government'

May 1, 2009

That means the possibility of a Third Front government is alive and also, the issue of secularism.

It's a hypothetical comment. Right now, in the country there is neither such an environment nor any such (communal-secularism debate) issue. The buzz is that former UPA allies and Third Front partners have adopted an ideological neutral position and their strategy has a large amount of flexibility.

They all want to be part of the government, but they don't know which bloc will be forming the next government.

One possibility could be that, in a certain situation, just to stop the Congress from supporting a Third Front government, the BJP can also offer support and have a friendly government in power.

I don't see that possibility at all. We are going to be the frontrunner to form the government.

Do you think the Gujarat riots of 2002 haunt the BJP even now?

The people of Gujarat have twice voted after that unfortunate situation. We raise the 1984 riots because the Congress was involved in it. Give me evidence against (Gujarat Chief Minister) Narendra Modi. The Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team has not got a word against him.
