'Dr Singh represents the hopes of so many people'

April 23, 2009

On the challenge to her father's leadership

I believe, as a leader of the country, my father has enormous personal qualities. I think many people are, perhaps, already familiar with them. He has the ability to work in the team where people have different views and different priorities.

I think my daddy has the ability to take people along with him. I think that is a very important skill to have in any leader.

I am hopeful his party will win the election and he will be prime minister again. I don't know politics but I am just hopeful because he has proved himself.

When Sonia Gandhi announced his name for the PM's post, we were not surprised in a way. Maybe, (she jokes) because we had got so used to the idea. Traditionally, the Congress never declared its PM candidate in advance. We are not surprised, I mean, not excited.

Five years have passed; if it happens or not happens we are ready for anything. I watch TV, but I don't know myself who will win. I think he can surely do more for the country. He can lead the government to do more. I am hopeful that he will become PM again because he represents the hopes of so many people. He brings a certain kind of positive energy.
