The new Bengal tiger

Capitalist Communist

Bhattacharya's biggest achievement has been making Bengal an alluring investment destination.

In his drive to turn Bengal into what he calls a 'Sunshine State', he has made several trips across Asia and Europe to help rope in investors.

Thanks to his efforts, information technology majors like Wipro, IBM and TCS have set up shop in Bengal. Kolkata has become a player in the new drive to woo IT companies. Indonesia's Salem group has entered into some of India's biggest FDI deals in real estate to set up townships in the state. Latest reports say the Tata group is considering setting up an automobile manufacturing unit in Bengal.
