Simran campaigns for Amma

Till 7.30, only music blared from the loudspeakers but at 7.30, a local party member started singing paeans to Amma animatedly. Whenever there was a sound of a car behind the stage, he stopped and looked behind. Somebody would then tell him to turn back and continue his speech.

Finally, the moment all the thousands of people had been waiting for happened. By 8.15 or so, Simran, the screen goddess of Tamil cinema entered the stage along with a young actress called Vindhya, comedienne Kovai Sarala and many other people from the film fraternity.

The man who was speaking stopped, gulped and made some sounds; he could not continue his speech even though he was asked to finish fast. He simply said, "Amma vaazhga.. Iratta Ilai " and withdrew.

Simran along with the other film artistes stood in a line and waved at the crowd. The massive crowd went mad, shouting, shrieking and jumping up and down on the plastic chairs. Simran, clad in jeans, light kurta and a bandhini duppatta looked beautiful and charming. She looked more scholarly in spectacles than a glamorous film star.
