'This election was won because of Sonia Gandhi's leadership'

Motilal Vora | May 13, 2004 12:00 IST

The question of who will be the Congress prime ministerial candidate will be decided after the results are out. But I would like to emphasise that this election has been won solely because of the great leadership of Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress is talking to various secular parties including the Samajwadi Party. A secular government led by the Congress will soon be in place. We are working towards that.

We will run the most efficient government in the country. The BJP has been running a scam-ridden, corrupt government. That is why they are losing.

The BJP has been banished by the people. Unemployment increased, workers were kicked out of their jobs and suicides among farmers increased. The BJP disappointed the people who lost their jobs.

The development that India has witnessed or is in the process of witnessing is because of Congress governance in the past. The BJP is claiming credit for our development work. That has backfired against the BJP in this election.

Motilal Vora, Congress treasurer, appeared on the Rediff Election Chat from the Congress headquarters in New Dehli
