P M Sayeed loses Lakshwadeep by 71 votes

Deputy speaker in the dissolved Lok Sabha, P M Sayeed, was on Thursday defeated by 71 votes by his Janata Dal-United rival Dr P Pookunji Koya.

Sayeed polled 15,526 votes.

Sayeed, 62, had represented the constituency for 10 terms since 1967.

Dr Koya had entered the battlefield after retiring from the Amini Community Health Centre, where he was the chief medical officer.
