Cong leading in five Assam seats

The Congress was leading in five of the 11 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, trends of which were available till now. Elections were held for 14 seats in the state.

In the prestigious Guwahati Lok Sabha seat, Kirip Chaliha of the Congress was ahead of singer-lyricist Dr Bhupen  Hazarika of the Bharatiya Janata Party by 3103 votes.

The Congress was also leading in Karimganj, Kaliabor, Tezpur and Jorhat. The BJP and Asom Gana Parishad had two seats apiece.

The BJP was leading in Mangaldoi and Nowgong while the AGP was leading in Barpeta and Dibrugarh.

In the two other seats, CPI-ML was leading in the Autonomous district while an independent candidate was leading in Kokrajhar.
