Women voters were teased: 'Tulsi'

May 10, 2004 14:28 IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, Smriti 'Tulsi' Irani, on Monday alleged that some Congress workers had threatened her and teased women inside two polling booths.

Irani, who is contesting against Congress candidate Kapil Sibal, said she had complained to the Election Commission.

"This is a deliberate attempt by Congress workers and polling agents to demoralise and dissuade women from coming out to vote," she said, adding, "if somebody harasses, every woman has the right to complain."

On the alleged threat to her, Irani said, "Apparently, the idea is to make it too disgusting for me to even step out and check my poll agents."
