Mehbooba Mufti will contest from Anantnag

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti will contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from Anantnag constituency in Jammu and Kashmir.

The party made the announcement late on Monday night hours after militants made a bid on her life.

The chief minister's daughter will take on the National Conference's Dr Mehbooh Beg in the south Kashmir constituency.

The PDP has fielded Ghulam Nabi Lone against NC chief Omar Abdullah in the prestigious Srinagar constituency.

Politician-turned-journalist Nizam-ud-Din will be the PDP candidate from

Baramulla constituency while the Congress has fielded former state Congress chief Ghulam Rasool Kar.

Earlier in the day, militants fired at Mehbooba Mufti's motorcade near Nagbal Harai village in south Kashmir.

An escort vehicle overturned during the encounter resulting in injuries to three paramilitary personnel. Her security guards managed to repulse the attack.
