42% polling in Manipur

April 26, 2004 18:45 IST

About 42% of the 7.40 lakh electorate cast their votes on Monday in the second and last phase of polls in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat, where a Central Reserve Police Force jawan was killed, four were injured and two ministers escaped a militant attack, official sources said.

Snatching of election materials, two electronic voting machines, disruption of polling and attack on polling stations were also reported from various places, sources said

Reports from districts said a lot of proxy votes were cast at many places in the absence of polling agents who failed to turn up in view of the 17-hour bandh called by insurgents.
