Apprehending poll irregularities in the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency, where her mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi is a candidate, Priyanka Gandhi on Monday met Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishna Murthy and submitted a memorandum to him.

Emerging from the brief meeting, she told waiting reporters that there were criminal elements in Rae Bareli and rigging could take place in some booths.

Priyanka said she submitted a list of the sensitive booths in Rae Bareli to the commission.

Polling in Rae Bareli takes place in the second phase on April 26.

Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami and other senior officials were present at the meeting.

Less than an hour after Priyanka left the Nirvachan Sadan, the Election Commission announced that it was appointing an additional special observer for Rae Bareli.
