'Let's forget the bad politicians'

Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman, 25, is India's first-ever Woman Grandmaster. She spoke to Shobha Warrier.

What do you think of politics and politicians?

I don't think much about politics. It is probably because of the high involvement of money and power that it is said politics is dirty. I feel as long as they are doing their work, it is OK. It doesn't matter whether they are dirty or good or bad. If they are doing something good for the public, it is fine. You can't expect everyone to be a Buddha. Obviously, there would be some amount of misuse of power.

Would you say that some politicians are doing something for the country?

Let's forget the bad politicians. There are some good politicians too in our country who have made India a big power in the world. We have improved quite a lot. Obviously, the politicians must have done something. It can't just happen.
