New Mizo govt to be sworn-in on Thursday

December 03, 2003 17:57 IST

Governor Amolak Rattan Kohli will conduct the swearing-in of a Mizo National Front ministry at the Raj Bhavan in Aizawl on Thursday, official sources said.

The MNF retained power after securing a simple majority of 21 in the 40-member assembly while the Congress bagged 12 seats. The Mizoram People's Conference-Zoram Nationalist Party combine could manage only four seats while one seat went to the Mara Democratic Front.

Zoramthanga was unanimously elected leader of the MNF legislature party and will retain his position as chief minister. On Tuesday night, he had submitted the resignation of his council of ministers to Kohli who in turn asked the former to form a new government.

Zoramthanga said his government would concentrate on infrastructure development, shifting of Assam Rifles troops from the heart of Aizawl, peace initiatives in the Northeast, maintenance of peace and construction of a full-fledged stadium.
