December 01, 2003 14:17 IST

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday took the Bharatiya Janata Party to task for raking up the foreign origin issue of her mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

"This is a non-issue. Only the BJP is making it an issue," she said describing her mother as an alternative leader of the country.

Asked why she did not campaign for Congress in the assembly polls, Priyanka said she did not feel the need as the party was doing well in all the four states.

On whether she would campaign in future, she said she would take a decision then.

When referred to her presence at the booth to cast vote along with BJP leader and Union minister Jagmohan, Priyanka she had been taught by her mother to respect elders.
