2 CPI-M activists among 6 killed in Kashmir

Election 2002 Stepping up attacks ahead of the second phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, militants on Friday night gunned down six persons, including two activists of the Communist Party of India, Marxist.

Zahoor Ahmad and Abdul Rehman Dar of the CPI-M were killed while Mohammad Ismail was seriously injured in an attack by militants in Village Okai in Kulgam area of Anantnag district.

Zahoor and Rehman were abducted from their houses and shot dead, while Ismail was critically injured.

The same group of militants struck Hadigam, 1km from Okai, and shot dead a Sikh driver from Punjab and his assistant. The identity of the dead man is being ascertained, sources said.

A private tutor, Javid Iqbal Shah, was also shot dead at Palpora in Ganderbal area on the outskirts of Srinagar.
