Congress, BJP left in fray for Mehsana Lok Sabha seat

The stage is set for a straight contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress party in Mehsana Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat, where a by-election will be held on December 12.

BJP's Punjaji Thakor and Congress' Mohanlal Patel are the only candidates left in the fray after the papers of Chandansinh Rajput, a dummy candidate put up by the BJP, were rejected during scrutiny on Wednesday, Election Commission sources said on Thursday.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Congress MP Atmaram Patel early this year.

Over 12.54 lakh voters, including 6.28 lakh women, would exercise their franchise for the seat.
