BJP fields Bhavin Sheth from Ellisbridge

With Narendra Modi detractor Haren Pandya opting out of the Gujarat assembly polls, the BJP on Monday announced the candidature of Bhavin Sheth for the Ellisbridge assembly seat.

"BJP president Venkaiah Naidu on Monday approved the candidature of Bhavin Sheth, a municipal councillor of Ahmedabad, for the Ellisbridge assembly constituency," party spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in Delhi.

With Monday's announcement, the BJP has now declared its candidates for all the 182 assembly seats in the state.

Apparently irked over the party keeping him on tenterhooks with just one day left for close of nominations, Pandya on Sunday announced his decision not to contest the polls.

Pandya, the sitting MLA from Ellisbridge, had fallen foul of Chief Minister Narendra Modi after the former allegedly deposed before a non-governmental panel probing the post-Godhra riots and made critical remarks against the state administration's handling of the communal flare-up.
