Lok Jan Shakti to join hands with Congress to oust BJP

The lok Jan Shakti, led by former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, is planning to support the Congress in the upcoming Gujarat polls and an understanding with the party is being worked out.

The party might not field candidates against the Congress Paswan added.

The Lok Jan Shakti is discussing an alliance with the Congress and can 'sacrifice' anything to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in the polls for the peace and integrity of the nation, Paswan told reporters after the two-day national executive committee meeting of the party in Ahmedabad on Monday.

Six resolutions were adopted at the meeting including political, economic, atrocities on schedule castes and tribes, disinvestments, and education, he said.

Paswan said Gujarat has witnessed violence of the worst kind against innocent citizens starting from Godhra and then engulfing Ahmedabad, Vadodara and other parts of the state resulting in tremendous human suffering and heavy losses to the economy.

The state government instead of performing its constitutional duty to act promptly against the perpetrators of violence aided and abetted crimes against the people, he alleged, adding the victims have not yet been rehabilitated.

Paswan expressed concern over the reprehensible tendency displayed by BJP to cover acts of violence and crime with political glory, aimed at communal polarisation of the electorate to yield political dividends in elections.
