"The yatra would now take the shape of public meetings and rallies in different parts of Gujarat," VHP senior vice-president Giriraj Kishore told PTI.
Kishore, however, said the VHP's other planned programmes, including a public meeting in Ahmedabad on December 6 to mark the tenth anniversary of the demolition of the disputed structure at Ayodhya, would remain unchanged.
The Vijay diwas (victory day) meeting would be addressed among others by VHP chief Ashok Singhal, he said.
"Our programmes would be peaceful and violence would not be allowed at any cost," Kishore asserted.
Refusing to criticise the Narendra Modi government for arresting its leaders and stopping its yatra in Ahmedabad earlier on Sunday, he said, "The state government was compelled to act due to the Chief Election Commissioner's directives. We don't want to oppose it (the Modi government) and hinder the Hindutva forces."
