Congress to drop 10-12 MLAs in Gujarat

The Congress decided to drop at least 10 to 12 of its legislators in the outgoing Gujarat assembly, as the central election committee of the party finalised 75 seats for the December 12 polls in the state.

"All the 63 MLAs of the party will not be re-nominated. At least 10 to 12 MLAs, who will have difficulties in retaining their seats, will be dropped," All India Congress Committee general-secretary, in-charge of party affairs in Gujarat, Kamal Nath, said in New Delhi on Thursday.

He said the CEC, which met on November 12, had finalised 75 candidates and their names were likely to be announced in a day or two.

The CEC will meet again on November 16 to finalise the candidates for the remaining seats, he said, adding for strategic reasons the party was awaiting the Bharatiya Janata Party list to decide its nominees for at least 30 to 35 seats.
