Jyotiraditya Scindia wins Guna
by 4.5 lakh votes

Election 2002

Jyotiraditya Scindia of the Congress has won the Guna parliamentary seat defeating his Bharatiya Janata Party rival by a margin of over 4.5 lakh votes.

Scindia beat Desh Raj Singh Yadav in the bye-poll held for the seat following the death of his father Madhavrao Scindia in a plane crash last year.

Jyotiraditya's victory margin is one of the highest ever in the country's parliamentary history.

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan had got into the Guiness Book of World Records for securing the highest victory margin in Lok Sabha elections when he won the Hajipur (SC) seat by 4.24 lakh votes in 1977 riding on an anti-emergency wave. He bettered his own record with a margin of 5.05 lakh votes in 1989.
