2 ITBP men killed in Baramulla

Two Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel and a militant were killed and three ITBP men injured when militants attacked a polling booth in Sonawari in Baramulla constituency of Jammu and Kashmir today.

In a statement in New Delhi, the ITBP said militants opened fire indiscriminately at a polling booth in Sonawari area of Ajas town in Baramulla. The ITBP men guarding the booth replied with counter-fire. In the exchange, one head constable, one constable and a militant were killed.

In another incident, militants tried to waylay ITBP personnel at booth no 38 in Waripura before the start of polling, but their attempt was foiled, the ITBP statement said. The polling commenced later in the morning. No casualties were reported in this incident, it added.
