BJP off Ayodhya for 5 years, says Govindacharya

Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary K N Govindacharya today said the party has imposed a five-year moratorium on some contentious issues, including the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Addressing a press conference in Kanpur today, Govindacharya, who was on his way to Farukkhabad, said the temple is no more an issue of political parties but of the people.

He said that being the major partner in the National Democratic Alliance, the BJP is committed to the common agenda enumerated in the manifesto.

He said that after the expiry of the moratorium, the party would decide whether to take up the temple issue.

Govindacharya claimed the general election would deal a big blow to the Congress, and predicted bitter defeats for the party's president Sonia Gandhi in both Bellary and Amethi.
