Mahajan, Thackeray to discuss chief ministership issue

Bharatiya Janata party trouble-shooter Pramod Mahajan will air-dash to Bombay this evening on a fire fighting mission to resolve the deadlock between the Shiv Sena and the BJP over the issue of chief ministership.

Talking to reporters at the state BJP headquarters in south Bombay, BJP spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar said Mahajan would arrive in Bombay this evening and hold a meeting with Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

Meanwhile, a meeting of all newly elected BJP legislators was convened today to apprise them about the unfolding political situation. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde.

The BJP MLAs were directed not to leave Bombay in view of the present scenario, he added.

When asked why the BJP leaders refused to accompany newly elected joint legislative party leader Narayan Rane to Raj Bhavan this morning, Jawadekar said it was unanimous decision taken by both the parties. ''We decided to first garner support from requisite MLAs,'' he said.

Rane was forced to call off his visit to Raj Bhavan after some BJP leaders raised objections saying that they were not consulted.
