Ackerman congratulates Vajpayee on win

Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans Chairman Gary L Ackerman has hailed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's victory and hoped that he would take bold initiatives to strengthen and expand trade, political and strategic relationships with the United States.

In a statement last night, the Democratic lawmaker said, now is the time for India and the United States to seize the opportunity to redefine their ties and realise their common interests, allowing the relations between the two great nations to bloom to full potential.

He also hoped that the prime minister would take steps to further reform the Indian economy and resume the important task of making India both a strong and secure nation, reaching out to achieve peaceful relations with its neighbours.

He congratulated the people of India for yet again demonstrating their abiding faith and passion for the democratic process and rule of law by freely, fairly and openly electing a new national government of their choice.
