Antony says Cong-NCP alliance possible in Maharashtra

Congress Working Committee member, A K Antony, today said his party had not closed the option of forging an alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party to form a coalition government in Maharashtra.

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme in Thiruvananthapuram, he said the CWC meeting tomorrow would discuss the issue in detail, besides the party's performance in the Lok Sabha elections.

Referring to Union Home Minister L K Advani's statement that the NDA's victory was mainly due to the formation of the pre-poll alliance, Antony said it would be difficult for the BJP to lead a government of 23 parties.

Asked if his party would try to form a government with the support of the like-minded parties, he said efforts would be made to strengthen Congress by continuing as an opposition party in the Lok Sabha.
