Vajpayee wins by 123,000 votes

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has defeated his nearest rival Dr Karan Singh of the Congress by a margin of over 123,000 votes in Lucknow.

In another key contest, film star-turned-politician Raj Babbar of the Samajwadi Party defeated Bhagwan Shankar Rawat of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 1,12,982 votes in a straight contest in Agra. With this the Samajwadi Party has wrested the seat from the BJP.
