Tripura sees red

Candidates of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist are leading comfortably in both the Lok Sabha constituencies of Tripura as counting progressed in the state's 16 centres.

Former agriculture minister and CPI-M candidate Bajuban Reang leads by more than 140,000 votes over his nearest rival, the BJP's Jishnu Bebbarma in Tripura East (ST). CPI-M nominee and former state home minister Samar Chowdhury is ahead by 105,000 votes over Trinamul Congress' Sudhir Ranjan Majumder in the Tripura West constituency.

Reang and Chowdhury had won last time around defeating their Congress rivals by margins of 72,686 and 18,876 votes respectively.

The counting process is expected to end on Thursday.
