21 hurt; 7% polling in Anantnag

At least 21 people, including 18 security personnel and two polling agents, were injured in attacks by militants in the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency where only seven per cent turnout was recorded till afternoon, official sources said.

The Noorabad assembly segment recorded 31 per cent polling followed by Rajpora 10 per cent, Bijbehara 9.3 per cent and Shopian and Wachi eight per cent each.

Turnout in the rest of the assembly segments was less than seven per cent. Polling which started on a dull note picked up later, the sources said.

A blast in Saboora injured one person and held up polling for half an hour. Another bomb went off on the Sagam-Kokernag road at noon, but no one was injured, the sources said.

The police arrested 20 All-Party Hurriyat Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party leaders for campaigning against the election during the last fortnight, they said.
