The Congress won this seat till 1967, and from 1971 it has been the CPI-M's turn. Gaddar Saha was MP for four terms, and the next three times it has been Ramachandra Dome's turn. In 1996 Dome defeated the Congress's Mamata Saha by 111,000 votes.
