The Congress MP in the first three elections from here was industrialist R S R K Morarka, and in the fourth election, too, the constituency returned another industrialist, K K Birla, who contested on the Swatantra Party ticket. In 1996, the Congress-Tiwari made its mark here, its candidate Shees Ram Ola defeating the BJP's Matu Ram Saini by 13,000 votes.
