Right from 1984 the seat has with Ramashraya Prasad Singh of the CPI, although his share of the vote has fallen from 50.7 % to 35.72 % between 1984 and 1996. The Congress has managed to hold on to the second position, but in 1996 it was ahead of the Samata Party by less than 30,000 votes.
