Don't favour ruling party, EC tells state govts The Election Commission has directed all political parties in power at Centre as well in states to provide rest houses, dak bungalows and other government accommodations to all political parties and contesting candidates on an ''equitable basis.'' Also, public places like maidans must be made available impartially to all parties and contesting candidates for holding election meetings. The commission has warned ruling parties against use of official vehicles or personnel, which includes those belonging central/state governments, public undertakings, joint-sector undertakings, local bodies, municipal corporations, municipalities, marketing boards, cooperative societies, autonomous district council or any other body in which public funds, howsoever small a portion of the total, were invested for electioneering. The Election Commission has directed state governments not to issue any advertisement at the cost of the public exchequer regarding achievements of the party in power.
