Vajpayee government failed on all fronts, says Jaya

All India Anna DMK general secretary J Jayalalitha has charged the Vajpayee government with failure on all fronts.

Addressing a campaign meeting in Karur last night, she said her party had aligned with the BJP in the last elections, hoping that the BJP-led coalition would provide an efficient government at the Centre.

However, it had failed to deliver the goods and fallen on its own. Moreover, it had gone against the interests of Tamil Nadu on some vital issues, such as the Cauvery dispute.

Jayalalitha denied Union Home Minister and BJP leader L K Advani's charge that the AIADMK was intent on pulling down the Vajpayee government. She said when he attended the AIADMK conference at Tirunelveli, Advani had promised to take action against the DMK government under Article 356 of the Constitution. But, he changed his stand after the BJP came to a tacit understanding with the DMK, she added.

She said the AIADMK, the Congress, the CPI, CPI-M, the Indian National League and other parties had come together to defeat the "communal" forces and ensure a stable government at the Centre.

Earlier, Jayalalitha had addressed several meetings at Andipatti Kottai, Pallapatti and Aravakkurichi in support of her party candidate M Chinnasamy in the Karur Lok Sabha constituency.
