Seshan to take on Advani as Congress nominee

The Congress will field former chief election commissioner Tirunellai Narayanaiyer Seshan against Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani in Gandhinagar for the general election.

Polling in Gandhinagar will take place in the first phase on September 5.

According to highly placed sources in the Congress in New Delhi today, Seshan is likely to file his nomination tomorrow or on Wednesday, the last date for filing nominations for the first phase.

This will be Seshan's first-ever electoral contest. Advani is seeking re-election for the third time from Gandhinagar.
